Chairs act as devices that create and control the level of interaction within a space. They offer a comfortable theoretical space, distinguished from their surroundings through level, visual grouping and directing the users towards (or away) from each other. Within this space the occupants feel safe and akin to each other, easily and comfortably interacting.
The inter-stool is a conceptual exploration and reframe of this idea of interaction through the medium of a chair, which is itself an object of interaction. It achieves this through the use of material, form and texture. It is made from natural materials, which give a soft and warm texture that reflects the interacting concept. The stool uses open, connected and flowing round forms that demonstrate interlacing, weaving and interlocking. The construction also reflects the theme through the use of knitted fabrics, a wooden frame with a halving joint and a binding woven rope. |
