    Rationale

The intention of my chair is to show the bond between my family. A singled parent family with three generations of women.

Every vintage chair has it’s history, same as every member of my family has her own experiences and stories. I have reconstructed an old vintage chair, to minimise wastage.

My chair is divided into three parts.

The back rest represents my grandmother. Through her support, the rest of us may relax, in the security of her care. She fills our family with love and manages a steady supply food for our household. To symbolise her care, rice has been used to fill the back rest’s cross bar.

The legs represent my mother, she runs around all day earning money for our family. Her absents of our relationship, it’s almost as if she is invisible to us. Due to her lack of presents, clear resin was used as a metaphor.

Linking the above two is the seat, which represents myself. Wool is used to create a net on the seat, portraying the limitations I have as the youngest.

Through constraining, I feel warm within the confines of this small union. The seat is filled with rice to express the love that I received from my family.

Whiteness is used to consume the chair to display the monotone nature of our women only family.
