In response to seeing the 'green' bags from shopping centres everywhere last
year and how some media reports were reporting it as a 'trendy' item, I sought
to construct a truly sustainable eco-friendly bag, that was not made from
plastic like the other green bags. I used recycled scraps of material,
favouring expandable lace like materials that can expand to hold a multitude
of groceries, and used natural plant dyes to decorate it. The grocery bag
attached in the image is one designed to hold fruit and vegetables, which
became the inspiration for the patterning on the decoration patches. This bag
took very little energy to construct and its main purpose is to encourage
other eco-friendly people to construct their own bags, or at least look at
buying recycled cloth bags instead of the plastic green bags which start to
break apart quite quickly with use. |
