    Rationale

Storytelling consists of two pieces – a body wrap and a curtain. Both are made from plastic bags which have been stitched and melted. The two parts can work independently.
This work explores the concept having two selves, the internal identity and the articulated identity. The internal identity is the monologue of thoughts and emotions which we know inside our body. The articulated identity is the persona that others perceive. We perform our identity, to others, by telling stories through speech, gesture, clothing, and actions. My argument is that articulated identity is a covering used to protect our internal identity. The internal identity is the core of our being, it is vulnerable and precious.

Using visual metaphors such as private and public space, or the body and garment I have expressed the separation of internal and articulated identity. The beauty of the coverings is aimed at getting away from the perception of the articulated identity as ‘fake’ and deceptive.
