The tunnel upgrade seeks to ‘reframe’ the commuting experience
so more people are encouraged to walk and use public transport through a
revived level of enjoyment. The tunnel seeks to counter the production of
pollution quite simply through the revitalisation of public space, challenging
the current processes of building more roads as opposed to public spaces
for pedestrians.
Environmental graphic treatment:
Through taking the clock face out of the preconceived idea of the circle
with rotating hands and refitting the clock face to one entire rectangular
wall of the 219m long tunnel time and the commuter experience is ‘reframed’.
Additionally, the clock whilst relaying the hours and minutes of the day
also displays the day and month of the year, this annual cycle intended
to ‘reframe’ the journey through the tunnel itself through the
act of retrospection. For what at times can seem like a very long journey
through the tunnel is now shortened in its new annual context, where one
would only see the full cycle of the clock in a twelve month period. |
