    Rationale

With so many damaged and useless pairs of tights stockpiling in the drawer it is time to RE-THINK: Is the hole such a bad thing? It is time to RE-EVALUATE? A pair of lace tights with one little hole …. if several more holes were added, wouldn’t the lace just continue to grow?

I have RE-USED olds tights to create lace-based, surface design for men’s ties. REINVENTING lace for men, Man Lace has been RE-BORN. Throughout history lace and tights have been desirable garments worn by both sexes, yet today it is uncommon in men’s apparel.

Now an oxymoron has been illustrated by using a
stereotypical female garment to create a fashion
accessory for men, in turn RE-SETTING gender fashion stereotypes.

This project encourages people to RE-ASSESS what has previously been perceived as useless can now be RE-CYCLED, RE-USED and RE-INVENTED, to become aesthetic and practical items. The possibilities of REFRAMING our own opinions will in turn impact upon and influence others.
Using different stocking types: fishnets, embroidered and sheer beige I have created three fabric prints that are abstracts of common, conservative and traditional tie designs; checks, parallel lines and paisley.
