    Rationale

Confronted with a chair of construction material we are forced to assess the true nature of gathering and sitting in the public arena. The public seat is more likely to be architectural; a stair or retaining wall, monument or
gutter; structures achieving a second life through convenience, removed from their origins.

How we perceive the seat is challenged when it is no longer passive. A seat that may not be comfortable, may expose us, becomes an imposing entity that demands more than the casual reclining we have become accustomed to. Suspender is a controlling seat only wide enough for a size 12 bottom. Intended as a measure against rising obesity rates in Australia, where 60% of the adult
population is overweight, the suspended seat top and closed confines dictate that the user works to stay upright and retain a sense of stability.
