My chair design bases on the scenario of Asian Karaoke. Karaoke for Asians is a group activity that allows teenagers to go “crazy”.
People dance, eat, play games and get drunk all in a tiny room for usually more than three hours. This particular nature of Asian Karaoke begets me to deign a bouncy chair that allows people to play with and relax their bodies while their movements are restricted in the tiny room for such a long period of time.
To allow my chair bounce and fit into the context, I utilized rubber gloves as the major source of material. The application of such material in chair design is not just innovative, but it challenges the function of gloves themselves and also helps shaping the symbolic value of the chair.
Taking the hand shape of the gloves, the idea of unity becomes evident; revealing another purpose of my chair design – to bring people together and allow users to enjoy the time of gathering. |
